Over 40 years successful teaching experience with a variety of age groups in a variety of settings at various levels.
Creative and Flexible
Highly creative, organized and dedicated. Comfortable working in individual or group settings.
- Works with children and adults who are visually impaired, hearing impaired, autistic, orthopedically impaired, developmentally delayed, mentally challenged, emotionally disturbed, brain injured, medically fragile, socially inept and/or with multiple disabilities
- Works in physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, developmental therapy and school settings
- Works closely with teachers, therapists and staff designing activities that captivate and entice clients to accomplish therapy goals, Individual Education Program and/or Individual Family Service Plan goals using highly trained assistance dogs
- Trains new behaviors and handles the dogs in such a way that they provide the motivation needed for a client to take the next step toward accomplishing his/her goals and independence
- Designs Interactive Kits used to stimulate interaction and motivation between the dogs and clients
- Works in one-on-one and in group settings
- Directs plays for family, birthday parties and tea parties with disabled children and dogs
- Works with families and in the community as needed by clients
- Presents Parent Workshops designed to empower parents of disabled children
- Conducts workshops and seminars for professionals interested in using dogs in therapy or school settings
- Supports Canine Companion for Independence Facility dog and Skilled Companion graduates
